On-Campus Interviews
UK Law can easily accommodate employers who would like to interview students on our campus during the fall and spring semesters. Employers indicate preferred hiring criteria, locations for which they are interviewing, application materials requested and pre-screen résumés to select the students with whom they interview. For ultimate convenience, employers also choose their own interview dates and times.

Second-year and third-year student interviews occur the week prior to fall semester and throughout the fall and spring semesters. First-year student interviews usually take place on Saturdays in February to minimize interruption with their class schedules and to maximize efficiency for the employers.

There is no charge to employers for interviewing on our campus. Career Development helps make your visit run smoothly by providing information about parking, hotels, restaurants and directions.

Campus interviews take place at the Stuckert Center or the College of Law which are both located in the heart of UK’s campus in beautiful Lexington, Kentucky. If you are interested in interviewing on campus, you may register for campus interviews by clicking the button below, completing the form, saving it and sending it via email to Student Affairs Officer Joan Yocum. The form may take a moment to load. We look forward to seeing you on campus.

Résumé Collections
In addition to on-campus interviews, Career Development offers a résumé forwarding service which provides employers the opportunity to receive résumés and cover letters from students interested in their practice areas and locations. With this service, Career Development collects the application information from the students and then Career Development forwards all of this information to the employer at one time and in one packet.

After reviewing the résumé collection information, if an employer is interested in interviewing the applicants, the employer has the option of contacting the students directly to arrange interviews at your place of business or notifying Career Development and we will contact the students and arrange an on-campus interview schedule at a time which is convenient for you.

You may request this service by clicking the button below, completing the form, saving it and sending it via email to Student Affairs Officer Joan Yocum. The form may take a moment to load. There is no cost associated with this service.

Job Fairs
Job fairs are cooperative interview programs where law students from participating schools interview with employers at one central location. UK students participate in job fairs in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and other locations outside of Kentucky. Job fairs may be ideal for employers who would like to interview UK law students but are unable to visit campus. If you would like to receive information about any of the job fairs in which UK Law participates, please contact Associate Dean Susan Steele.

Grading Policies, GPA and Class Rank Distributions
UK Law continues to adhere to high academic standards and does not condone grade inflation. Our most recent GPA and class rank distributions are available to employers recruiting at UK. When viewing this information in relation to students or graduates, please keep in mind our high admissions standards, their records of academic achievement at other institutions, past employment and other experiences, involvement in activities and leadership, the number of courses taken by a student, and the fact that one low grade may significantly affect a student’s GPA and class rank.

The average grade at UK College of Law changed beginning in the fall of 2007. Please note that the average grade for 1L, 2Ls and 3Ls is now from 2.90 to 3.10. In the past, under the former grading system, the average grade for 1Ls was 2.60 to 2.80 and for 2Ls and 3Ls the average grade was 2.70 to 3.00. This means that students in a non-traditional program covering more than three years, such as a joint degree program, may not have GPAs (and therefore class ranks) comparable with those students against whom they are ranked in the current year. The faculty voted for this change after taking various considerations into account, such as our rigorous admissions standards. Under both the old and the new systems, professors may deviate from the range under certain circumstances. Please click the button below to view the Grading Policies, GPA and Class Rank Distributions.

The entering Class of 2008 has a median GPA of 3.63 and a median LSAT score of 160, with the top quartile of the class reporting a median GPA of 3.84 and median LSAT score of 162. The students come from 65 undergraduate institutions and 22 different states, as well as locations throughout Kentucky.

UK Law offers a well-rounded education from some of the finest faculty in the country. Our graduates have achieved stellar bar passage rates in Kentucky and other states. First-time takers from UK Law achieved a 95% pass rate for the July 2008 administration of the Kentucky Bar Exam, and reports from other states indicate success in passing their bar exams as well.

College of Law Policies
All employers are expected to comply with the College of Law's Nondiscrimination Policy and Outside Work Policy which are posted on this website. Employers interviewing on campus will be required to sign a statement that they will comply with these policies. These policies are mandated by the American Bar Association and the American Association of Law Schools as a condition of UK’s accreditation. If you have questions, please contact Associate Dean Susan Steele.
