Professor Bauries Receives Dissertation of the Year Award Nov 3 2009 10:26AM
Professor Scott Bauries was recently awarded the 2009 Joseph C. Beckham Dissertation of the Year Award for his work “Judicial Review and the Separation of Powers in State Constitutional Litigation Challenging the Adequacy of Education Spending: Complementary Analyses and a Proposed Adjudicatory Model”.
The Education Law Association (ELA) selected Bauries's dissertation, which he had defended at the University of Florida this past summer. The ELA uses a blind review process with multiple readers to evaluate the dissertations. Bauries was contacted by Cate K. Smith, J.D., executive director of the Education Law Association.
To be considered for this award, the dissertation must:
- -have a theoretical base
- -be conceptually clear and address an important problem or hypothesis
- -contain a comprehensive and relevant review of applicable literature
- -demonstrate a methodologically sound approach
- -present a cogent analysis of data
- -show significant results and discussion
The ELA, formerly NOLPE, is a national, non-profit, nonadvocacy member association that promotes interest in and understanding of the legal framework of education and the rights of students, parents, school boards, and school employees.
