Nicole Huberfeld is Gallion & Baker Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law and Bioethics Associate at the College of Medicine. Nicole teaches structural constitutional law and a variety of healthcare law classes as well as lectures at the College of Public Health and the College of Medicine. Her scholarship focuses on the cross-section of constitutional law and federal healthcare programs with a particular interest in federalism and Spending Clause jurisprudence. Her article entitled Federalizing Medicaid, 14 U. Pa. J. Const. L. 431 (2011), was cited by Justice Ginsburg’s opinion in the Healthcare Cases (NFIB v. Sebelius). Nicole has recently completed work on Plunging into Endless Difficulties: Medicaid and Coercion in the Healthcare Cases (with Weeks Leonard and Outterson), which is forthcoming in Boston University Law Review. She has also recently published Challenging the Stakeholders: A Review of Laura Katz Olson, The Politics of Medicaid, 33 J. of L. Med. 201 (2012) and Post-Reform Medicaid: Discordant Advocacy Reflects Conflicting Attitudes, 21 Annals of Health L. 513 (2012). Nicole was also a primary author of the Health Law Professors’ Amicus Brief supporting the constitutionality of the Medicaid expansion in the Affordable Care Act litigation. Nicole also has published with a number of law journals across the country, including Illinois Law Review, U.C. Davis Law Review, and North Carolina Law Review. Nicole is a repeat guest blogger on Concurring Opinions, a Contributing Editor to HealthLawProf blog, and an op-ed contributor to Jurist and the National Law Journal. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Duncan Teaching Award, a nominee for the University of Kentucky Great Teacher Award, and a nominee for the ALI Young Scholars Medal.
